About the Workshop
Black women in the United States are a unique population and it is important to understand their social, ecological, and historical experiences in order to effectively support them in therapy. Presenters will provide attendees with information about the strengths Black women possess, the challenges they face, and the clinical implications of these common experiences. Presenters will review challenges and pitfalls that clinicians may face in their work with Black women and share strategies to successfully build therapeutic relationships with these clients. Presenters will use case examples and role playing to actively engage attendees in learning helpful clinical skills that they can use when working with Black female clients in individual therapy, couple therapy, and family therapy. Overall, this workshop will increase attendees multicultural competence related to working with Black women in therapy.
